About Casanel Vineyards

Nelson and Kathleen DeSouza opened Casanel Vineyards on October 18,2008. Located amongst 50 acres in rural Leesburg,VA Casanel Vineyards has two ponds, one with a gazebo, a restored two floor mid 1800s stone tasting room (formerly a cow barn) with a large patio. There is also a log cabin on the property dating back to 1751. Come enjoy the peace and tranquility of our winery! Tasting fee is $5 per person. The tasting fee for groups of 8 or more is $10 per person. Groups are required to make reservations a week ahead of time. Our last call for wine and tastings is at 5:30pm. Dogs are not allowed in the tasting room, but are more than welcome on our patio and property. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. Please clean up after your pup! Adults with children must supervise them (i.e., be at hand) at all times. We thank you for understanding.

Hours of Operation

We are open Friday through Monday 11am to 6pm, as well as Thursday 2pm to 6pm. Our last call and last tastings are at 5:30pm. Please check our website, twitter (under Casanel), and Facebook (Casanel Vineyards fan page) for early closings for private events and closings for holidays Casanel will be CLOSED DECEMBER 16th 2013 until JANUARY 16th 2014. We will reopen January 17th 2014 with our regular hours. Enjoy the holidays! Chardonnay

2009 Mas Que Nada Chardonnay
Winner of a bronze medal in the 2011 VA Governor's cup & a bronze in the 2011 VA Wine Lover's Classic, our 2009 Chardonnay begins with a nose of subtle herbal aromas and is followed by hints of melon and start fruit in the flavor. The flavors suggest a touch of grilled melon wrapped in prosciutto, with apple and cucumber essence. This white has a refreshing and crisp dry finish perfect for seafood and spicy dishes.

Viognier

2010 2010 Viognier
Bronze medalist at '12 VA Wine Lover's Classic and '13 VA Governor's Cup! Our '10 Viognier begins with a floral nose of honeysuckle & buttercup, which then glides along your palate with a touch of cream in the texture. Barrel-aged in French oak, its tropical fruit flavors envelop the senses with hints of peaches & champagne mangoes.

Our '09 Viognier exudes a delicate floral nose, bursting with flavors of white peach and nectarine mid-palate. The finish lingers with a tart crispness of limes, reminiscent of a key lime pie, which complements the smooth, silky finish.Barrel-aged for 8 months, our Rhone-style Viognier is the perfect dryer style wine for any dish.

Cabernet Sauvignon

2008 Batucada Cabernet Sauvignon
2008 Batucada Cabernet Sauvignon is the winner of a Gold Ribbon at the 2011 VA State Fair and silver medal winner at the 2011 VA Wine Lover's Classic. Our 2008 Batucada Cabernet Sauvginon exhibits earthy notes of pine and eucalyptus on the nose with hints of darker red fruits mid-palate, such as black cherry and raspberry. The finish is smooth with traces of cinnamon and oak. The perfect red for richer dishes!

Merlot

2008 Batucada Merlot
Gold medal winner at 2011 VA Wine Lover's Classic & Bronze Medal winner at the 2011 VA Governor's Cup, our '08 Merlot starts with the aromas of the oak barrel and a lovely smokiness with hints of red berries. The flavors include deep red fruit flavors, namely black currant, strawberry, and black cherry. Barrel aged for 10 months in French oak also has hints of earth and pepper, culminating in a smooth, satisfying finish.

Norton

2011 Norton 2011
Our claim-to-fame and beloved Rose Norton is whole-cluster pressed and barrel aged for 8 months in French oak. We fermented the Virginia red grape as a white wine and completely transformed this varietal. A lighter, friendlier version, our Norton tastes just like sangria, but without the work! Fresh berry flavors like strawberry and raspberry burst upon your palette and then develop into a delightful spice finish of nutmeg and clove. Perfect for summer bbqs or a patio get-together.

2011 2011 Dulce Dessert Wine
Our 2011 Dulce ("the sweet one") is made from a blend of our very own Pinot Gris and Chardonnay grapes, as well as some Viognier from a local vineyard. Beginning with a nose of honeyed apple, our Dulce satisfies any sweet tooth with its apple crisp and cinnamon flavor. With 8% residual sugar,it's a refreshing after dinner drink that can be paired with sharp cheeses of fresh fruits, or used to soak apples for a "drunken" take on apple pie!
