About Casanel Vineyards
Nelson and Kathleen DeSouza opened Casanel Vineyards on October 18,2008. Located amongst 50 acres in rural Leesburg,VA Casanel Vineyards has two ponds, one with a gazebo, a restored two floor mid 1800s stone tasting room (formerly a cow barn) with a large patio. There is also a log cabin on the property dating back to 1751. Come enjoy the peace and tranquility of our winery! Tasting fee is $5 per person. The tasting fee for groups of 10 or more is $10 per person. Groups are required to make reservations a week ahead of time.
Hours of Operation
We are open Friday through Monday 11am to 6pm, as well as Thursday 2pm to 6pm. Please check our website, twitter (under Casanel), and Facebook (Casanel Vineyards fan page) for early closing for private events and closings for holidays Casanel will be CLOSED DECEMBER 19th until JANUARY 12th. We will reopen January 13th with our regular hours. Enjoy the holidays! Additional closings for 2011: April 24th Easter (Sunday), July 4th (Monday), Thanksgiving & Christmas (please check for holiday/seasonal/weather emergency closings on website). Our 2009 Chardonnay begins with a nose of subtle herbal aromas and is followed by hints of melon and start fruit in the flavor. The flavors suggest a touch of grilled melon wrapped in prosciutto, with apple and cucumber essence. This white has a refreshing and crisp dry finish perfect for seafood and spicy dishes.

Our first estate wine! A blend of Casanel's own Pinot Gris and Chardonnay grapes, the Don Lorenzo exemplifies the fruits of our family's labor. Picked with care and blended with love, Don Lorenzo's white exudes a floral noise of orange blossoms and has the delightful taste of tangerine, apple, with hints of peach.

Our 2008 Batucada Cabernet Sauvginon exhibits earthy notes of pine and eucalyptus on the nose with hints of darker red fruits mid-palate, such as black cherry and raspberry. The finish is smooth with traces of cinnamon and oak. The perfect red for richer dishes!

Late Harvest Viognier "Dulce"
Our late harvest Viognier is a beautiful golden color that tastes like autumn! The wine is named after Nelson's mother Dorcelina. Dorcelina was called "Dulce" for short, which means sweet one in Portuguese. This dessert wine has both sweet and earthy notes. People taste butterscotch, honey, caramel apples, and toasted almonds. It's sure to become a favorite to pair with fruit desserts and savory appetizers!
