About Kluge Estate Winery Vineyard
Founded in 1999, Kluge Estate Winery and Vineyard is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, near Thomas Jefferson’s historic home Monticello, where Virginia winemaking began, and James Monroe’s AshLawn-Highland. In addition to being rich in history and scenery, the rolling hills of Kluge Estate boast superb terroir and four seasons. Kluge Estate’s stable of classic Virginia wines reveals the breadth and depth of the winemaking team and the terroir.
Kluge Estate’s wines span four brands and show the diversity of the land, the varietals, and the talent in the field and in the cellar. Try the lauded Kluge SP sparkling wines, Kluge Estate Bordeaux-style red, CRU aperitif and the Albemarle quartet of Simply Red, Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier.

Sauvignon Blanc

Albemarle Sauvignon Blanc
This classic is a fruit-forward wine with a nose of citrus, pear, melon and apricot. There are flavors of gooseberry, passion fruit and vanilla with a hint of licorice. The wine's crisp acidity makes it the perfect accompaniment to a warm summer day. Enjoy it with barbeque, grilled meats, fish and salads. It is also great with fried chicken, asparagus dishes (we recommend a cold pasta salad with asparagus and artichokes!) and grilled shrimp.

Albemarle Viognier
This popular white wine is having a moment! Complex floral and exotic fruit on the nose and on the palate: ripe and dried apricots, guava, lychee and spicy floral perfumes blend with a touch of smokiness, vanilla, and fresh tobacco. Viognier is a very food-friendly wine and a great go-to white. Enoy it with all seafood, fresh cheeses, pasta, cold cuts, salads and grilled vegetables.

Albemarle Rosé
Albemarle Rose is salmon-pink in color and exhibits floral nuances along with notes of berries, white peach, cherry and raspberry. The flavors reveal delicate licorice, vanilla and toasted almond accents. This is a dry, steely rose for a sophisticated palate and it is a drinking wine that pairs well with most dishes. Also, and ideal wine for vegetarian meals.

Kluge Estate New World Red
This wine is Kluge Estate's icon brand. The wine is aged in new French Oak barrels to develop complexity and finesse. The result is a classic, elegant wine with mature and well-balanced fruit. Full-bodied, round and silky with a spicy toasted oak character with notes of currant and black cherry. Kluge Estate New World Red pairs extremely well with rich dishes, such as duck, grilled steak, lamb, veal, venison and pork.

Albemarle Simply Red
Simply Red has a balanced, smooth palate and an intense ruby color. The wine is medium-bodied with a complex mineral expression and velvety tannins. There are nuances of blackberry and blackcurrant with delicate licorice, vanilla, smoke and spice notes. This elegant wine is the ideal companion for American cuisine, as well as Italian, Greek and French. It pairs well with pastas in assorted sauces, beef and veal stews, cheeses and hearty main-dish salads.

SP Blanc de Blanc
Only the cuvee (first press) of Kluge's finest grapes is fermented in stainless steel tanks. After bottling, the wine is aged on its lees to gain more complexity. A very low dosage is added to complement the wine's freshness. The vibrant chardonnay aromas exhibit notes of ripe apple and pear with hints of hazelnut and toasted almond. Kluge SP Blanc de Blanc is medium-bodied with a creamy, finely-beaded mouthfeel and a clean finish. Sparkling wine is for all of life's special moments but the elegance and finesse of Kluge SP Blanc de Blanc make it the perfect wine at the end of the day to accompany seafood, sushi, pheasant, duck and turkey.

SP Rosé
The wine is aged on its lees and a very low dosage is added at disgorging. The result is a beautiful salmon-hued wine with a fruity and floral nose, sensous body and delightful flavors. Taste notes of cherry, rose petal and raspberry, with a touch of toast. Kluge SP Rose pairs beautifully with tuna tartar, filet of swordfish and shrimp tempura. It is a treat with any spicy seafood dish.

SP Blanc de Noir
This wine is light gold in color, with soft hints of salmon and copper. The classic richness of Pinot Noir is balanced with delicate fruit and refreshing acidity. Aging the wine on its lees lends mild nutty and toasty notes to the varietal's citrus, strawberry, and cassis flavors. a well balanced and medium-bodied wine, with a creamy texture and soft, lingering finish.
Kluge SP blanc de Noir pairs beautifully with seafood, especially oysters, smoked or grilled salmon. An extremely versatile wine, it can enliven an array of savory, spicy and sweet dished. We like it with chocolate souffle!

SP Reserve
This very special wine uses only the cuvee (first press) and is fermented in French oak barrels. After bottling, the wine is aged on its lees to gain more complexity. Try with lobster, crab, oysters and prawns.

Kluge Cru
A sweet wine made from freshly pressed grapes, fortified with Virginia-distilled brandy and aged 18 months in Jack Daniel's® barrels. The distinct aging process results in complex and spicy aromas: a marraige of pear and white peach with nose of apricot, licorice, vanilla and roasted almonds. The refreshing and full-bodied aperitif is a wonderful match for rich appetizers such as foie gras or blue cheese. Enjoy it as a cocktail, over ice with a twist of orange or with Kluge SP Blanc de Blanc. Best when chilled at 43°F or on the rocks.
