About Pungo Ridge Winery
Pungo Ridge Winery is a father - son operated winery . We opened June 14 , 2010 and released our first vintage 14 months later. " We got into the wine business thru the back door so to speak " , explains winemaker , Frederick Havens , a professional photographer of over 35 years." I started crafting blackberry wine in the early 90's in 5 gallon carboys in the back of the studio as a hobby and over the years have made blackberry wine several different ways - dry , sweet , semi- sweet , oaked , port style , and desert style - and after several years I have found out most tasters prefer the Semi-sweet fruity style without oak with a slight blackberry tartness ."
