Traminette

AmRhein's 2019 Traminette

A delightful floral nose sets up this crisp and refreshing off-dry wine featuring flavors of grapefruit and pineapple. The acidity is balanced with a natural residual fruit sugar reminiscent of the German Spatlese.

WINEMAKER NOTES:

Traminette is a hybrid white grape variety originally bred at the University of Illinois in 1965. It is the result of a crossing between Gewurztraminer and Joannes Seyve 23.416. Joannes Seyve was named after its founder who was French biochemist. Traminette wines are known for being floral, fruity and sometimes spicy. This versatile wine can be made dry, sweet or anywhere in between. Our 2018 Traminette was grown in our Franklin County vineyard and was the first crop from this new planting. This vineyard is south facing on the east side of Cahas mountain at 1700’ elevation. The soil is red clay with granite rock.

TASTING NOTES & FOOD PAIRING

This Traminette has 2% residual sugar and is best served chilled. It features the classic floral notes on the nose with honey suckle and rose petals. On the pallet it begins with pineapple on the front and finishes with a hint of grapefruit. To showcase these flavors pair this wine with Thai green curry dishes.

All AmRhein's wines are made from 100% estate grown grapes cultivated in our three vineyard locations in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia since 1995
