Claret is typically a Bordeaux blend that got its name from the Brits way back in the 15th century when most of French wine exports went to England. Veritas 2013 Claret is indeed a Bordeaux blend comprising 59% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 23% Petit Verdot, 12% Malbec. Beautifully deep purplish red in color, the wine exudes an aroma of black cherry and blackberry with smoky rich oak aromas. As you taste the wine it fills the mouth with rich flavors of black fruit, with added olive and mocha notes. Soft yet assertive tannins round off the fruit flavors on the palate, leaving a delicious, long lasting finish. Claret was made to quaff with any red meat, the redder the better.
