The Virginia Wine Detour

This Virginia Wine Month, the Monticello Wine Trail is heading to Roanoke for a weekend built for the thirsty and adventurous. The Virginia Wine Detour brings together some of Virginia’s most exciting winemakers, great food and a newly restored mid-century modern motor lodge for a two-night escape at Colony House.

The weekend kicks off Friday with a poolside cookout, live DJ and wines from across the Monticello AVA. Meet the winemakers, discover new bottles and settle into the weekend with food from bloom Restaurant & Wine Bar and music from Tomas C of Magic City Discos.

Saturday is yours to explore Roanoke before heading back to Colony House for an afternoon poolside wine party featuring the Monticello Wine Trail and Lightwell Survey Wines. That evening, gather on the lawn for a four-course wine-pairing dinner from Chef Nate Sloan of bloom, featuring wines from Lightwell Survey and Monticello AVA producers.

Throughout the weekend, taste wines from Blenheim, Veritas, Stinson, Afton Mountain, Keswick, Southwest Mountains, Michael Shaps, Montifalco, Pollak, Pippin Hill, Loving Cup, Hark and Flying Fox, with featured winemakers joining the festivities.

Then sleep in Sunday, grab some coffee and breakfast, and enjoy a late checkout before getting back on the road.

Weekend packages begin at $785 and include two nights at Colony House plus one ticket to the weekend’s food and wine events. Additional guests sharing the room are $250 each.
