Black Twig

Notes from the CiderMaker: Black Twig is a seedling of Winesap that originated in northeast Tennessee in the early 1800s. The apple has a nutty texture and the resultant cider has spicy notes that make it unique. In recent studies at Virginia Tech, the Black Twig apple has shown to have relatively high tannin levels when compared to other American cider varieties.

Flavor: Light body with notes of lemon, green apple, and birch bark with a crisp finish

Food Pairings: Lighter cheeses like fresh chevre and ricotta; shrimp scampi; oysters
