Keeping with tradition, this year’s Lineage is 100% barrel fermented and aged Chardonel, done in mostly neutral oak.

This year we experimented with four different yeast fermentations in barrels, resulting in layers of complexity. One yeast highlighted the minerality, others brought more bright fruit aromas like those found in Chardonnay, and one really helped amplify the creamy structure of the wine.

Of the 16 barrels of Chardonel that we had this year, we carefully selected the 9 that, we thought, made the best wine when combined. Of those 9 barrels, only one was in new oak, with the rest going towards our Block A or Virginia White. This barrel-fermented wine was then sur lee aged (aged on the yeast) over the winter to help build creaminess and complexity.

Bright aromas of Key Lime pie, white peach, and vanilla undertones. A smooth, medium-bodied wine that is balanced by fresh acidity and a clean finish.
