The winery was opened in 2013 by Bruce and Amy Helsley, high school sweethearts that have been happily married since 1993. Through a lot of hard lessons and hard work, Bruce learned the craft of winemaking and has been Kindred's exclusive winemaker since 2014. Kindred Pointe's wines have won multiple Virginia Governor's Cup medals, including a 2022 Gold for their 2019 Picasso and a 2023 Gold for their 2019 Petit Verdot. Bruce also produces a variety of hard ciders on-site using locally grown apples, and his spicy Cherry Bomb cider brought home a Best of Show at The Indy International Wine Competition!
