Pinotage

Developed in South Africa in 1925, Pinotage is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsaut designed to allow the flavors of Pinot Noir to thrive in more challenging growing conditions. Aromas of plum and blackberry, along with smokiness, tobacco and red bell pepper characterize this emerging Virginia varietal, which can be made with varying amounts of oak for different effects. This full-bodied wine can pair with fattier meats, such as duck, to bring out complex flavors in both food and wine.
