Syrah / Shiraz

Syrah (known in Australia as Shiraz) is a spicy, heat-loving grape that thrives in our warm Virginia summers. It has a rich texture and fruit-forward flavor, most often predominantly blackberry and sweet blueberry. Dark, rich colors and peppery notes characterize these full-bodied wines, and firm tannins give it favorable aging potential. Syrah can be used as a single varietal wine or combined with other grapes to give structure to blends. Bold flavors such as barbeque, a blue cheese burger, or Asian plum sauces are great choices to pair with a Virginia Syrah.
