Rkatsiteli

Although Rkatsiteli (pronounced r-kat-si-teli) is one of the oldest grape varieties in the world, it is a relative newcomer to Virginia. It is very welcome in the Commonwealth, though, where it grows with firm, high acidity, and can produce wonderful dessert wines as well as dry expressions of the grape. It often showcases honey and tropical notes, but the warmer climates of Virginia can also bring out complex herbaceous aromas that shine. Pair Rkatsiteli with flavorful dishes such as roasted pork loin or fried Virginia oysters, or try an off-dry version with the spices of Thai or Vietnamese cuisine.
