Veritas Vineyards and Winery

Founded in 1999 by Patricia and Andrew Hodson, Veritas Vineyard & Winery is based in Nelson County, Virginia, on the conviction that the Blue Ridge foothills could produce world-class wines and offer a level of hospitality rarely seen in the region. Over 27 years, that argument has proven correct. Today, Veritas stands among Virginia’s most awarded, most visited, and most respected wine estates—a benchmark property whose standards have helped raise those of the entire region.

From the outset, the Hodsons conceived of Veritas as a complete wine country experience. Alongside the winery and production facilities, they developed a welcoming tasting room, a grand ballroom event venue, and The Farmhouse at Veritas, an eight-bedroom luxury bed and breakfast that became one of Virginia’s premier wine country lodging destinations. Alongside its own wine program, the on-site custom crush program provides production services to other Virginia winemakers, making Veritas not just a producer but a contributor to the broader Virginia wine ecosystem.

This integrated estate model — wine, hospitality, dining, and events on a single property — was forward-thinking for Virginia wine when it was conceived. It is now the template the new ownership group intends to expand.

The Virginia wine industry’s story has unfolded in distinct chapters. The founding generation — those who planted in the 1970s and '80s — proved the premise. The expansion era of the 1990s and 2000s gave the Commonwealth its critical mass of quality producers. Veritas belongs to that second wave: estates that raised the bar, set new quality benchmarks, and began building wine-country destinations rather than simply wineries.

The current transition to a Virginia-based multi-family ownership group with the capital and expertise to take the estate further marks the start of a new chapter, not just for Veritas, but for Virginia wine and agro-tourism.
